tin whistle and half pints

last night i needed nachos
it was imperative that i have some
and who does better nachos on the drive than st. augustine’s?
no one!
and what goes down better with nachos than ipa?
nothing!
so i had a tin whistle scorpion double ipa for double the fun
8% – “loaded with citra hops and a huge malt backbone. brewed in small batches”
they weren’t kidding about that huge malt backbone
it was teetering awfully close to the ‘too much’ precipice
i could have used a little less
but then i do like my ipas bitter(er)
darker in colour, dense head, clear as the day is long
its a fine beer for sure
its not going to crack my top ten list though

and… i’ll be making a brief appearance at st. augustine’s again this evening
its the beerthirst half pints re-launch in bc
i hear there will be swag as well as good beer!

cask night

last night’s central city white tea and orange peel ale cask at the railway club was fabulous!
i wasn’t getting the usual bitterness of orange peel, but it was definitely citrusy
and the white tea gave it a fuller flavour spectrum than just malts and hops
there was a whole lot going on in that beer
yup, it was a winner!

last thursday’s cask at the yaletown was their nagila pale ale dry-hopped with spalt
it was very drinkable
i couldn’t get over the colour of it though – so yellow!
i was assured by both iain and nick that it was the same colour as the regular nagila pale ale, but i remain sceptical (of course i could have ordered a pale ale and done colour comparison, but i had other beers to try, you know!)

see what i mean???
that ain’t a pale ale – that’s yellow!

the seasonal at the yaletown is currently the raspberry wheat
i am not the biggest wheat ale fan… but i love this one
so fruity and pink and deliciously refreshing!

and last, but certainly not least, iain got all citra hoppy in the brick and beam ipa!
its amazing right now!
definitely a westcoast ipa – so hoppy and citrusy
there better be some left for me to have tomorrow…
oh, note to self, bring the growler for that one!

citra

i’m not gonna lie to you, i am not a fan of snow
it looks pretty on the mountains but i really prefer that it just stays there!

one thing i am a fan of is the citra hop!
deliciously tart and tangy and citrusy – oh my!

the central city red racer esb cask, double dry-hopped with citra, did not disappoint last night at the railway club
i wished i had more time so i coulda had another
but really, just the one was delectable and delightful and knocked me on my ass a little bit!

i’m ba-ack!

i’m back, i’m tanned
and i’m off to a superbowl party!

found a great craft beer spot in playa del carmen
plenty more to come about that
and all the beers i got to try
but not today…

all i have for you today is this from elysian about their upcoming ipa offerings:

MANIC IPA SPECIALTY SERIES
We are Hopping into 2012 with an Exciting New Line-up of IPAs
So many IPAs, so little time…Idiot Sauvin bottle

Elysian Brewing Company is kicking it’s Manic IPA Series in February of 2012 with Idiot Sauvin, an IPA both fiercely fruity and floral, made with New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. The beer has appeared before only at Elysian’s pubs, and will be issued in both 22 oz bottles and draft.

Then in June will come Prometheus, anaggressively aromatic blend of Northwest classic Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo hops fondly familiar to Elysian regulars.
Rounding out the year will be Valhalla, a reddish fall-into-holiday IPA using Sorachi Ace and Citra hops, scheduled for release in October. Too many IPAs?  Bah, humbug!
